Getting Creepy with Tas - Part 1

Some of you may have seen Tas posting about his Midnight Orcs that he is doing up for Clash of Kings Australia 2018. Tas loves a good themed army and in the next couple of posts he is going to go through how to make his creepy looking trees! - Matt

Step 1: Sorry for the feet pic. I use approximately 30 strands of florist wire. I buy them in packs from a $2 shop. Grab the bundle in the middle

Step 2: Twist the bundle around your thumb. This will form the main trunk, so make it as long as you need (Edit by Matt - ha ha long trunk)

Step 3: Separate each branch into 2 equal bunches and keep twisting

Step 4: Continue doing this until each branch only has 2-3 strands remaining, ideally about 6cm long. Make sure to vary the length of each branch section

Step 5: Grab the ends of the wire and loop them back to the last branch terminal. Pinch it tight (you may want to use pliers to save your fingers) and twist

This is what you end up with after step 5. The ends of the wire should just roll in with the branch. You can clip them later if they stick out and look messy

Step 6: Split apart the loop into 2-3 rabbit ears and twist them

This is how it should look. You want each branch to end like this with a nice little loop. Remember to vary the sizes as you go

Et voila. Should take you about 40-60 minutes to make. I typically do this while watching the telly. The next part of this blog will go over how to clip the terminating loops, apply the liquid latex and some ideas for painting and presentation.
